In 1976, Gustave JS White Real Estate became the first Sotheby's International Realty® affiliate. Gustave White and Sotheby’s International Realty® have combined their efforts over the past 40 years in order to provide exceptional service and have achieved many of Rhode Island’s highest and most notable sales. In 1985, the agency also joined the global network of luxury agencies, Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate, and serves as the exclusive Regent Member for Rhode island.

Our History

The name of Gustave J.S. White has been synonymous with real estate, auctions, and appraisals in Newport County for almost 100 years. In the early 1920s, the firm of Andrews & White was formed. After Mr. Andrew's retirement, Gustave J.S. White formed a partnership with his associate, James W. Dwyer under the name of Gustave J.S. White, Inc. T he company has been co-owned by Paul A. Leys and Christina West for over two decades, since 2000. Supported by a team of over 35 dedicated and expert agents, the company continues to hold an extraordinary legacy in Newport County and beyond.

During the past nine decades, the firm has been the agent for many of the notable Aquidneck Island estates such as Hammersmith Farm, Vaucluse Farm, The Orchard, Fairholme, and Harbour Court, now home to the New York Yacht Club. During the past two decades, the firm has been involved in the sales of the top three residential sales in the state, as well as Bois Doré, Avalon, Wildacre, Hopedene, Beacon Rock, Seafair, Beaulieu, and the Gray Craig Estate, among others. Gustave White took place in the reselling of Miramar on Bellevue Avenue in 2006 and 2021, as well as the sale of Clarendon Court in both 2012 and 2021, representing the highest price paid for a residential property in Rhode Island to date. Gustave J.S. White has also provided commercial locations for the Raytheon Company, the Newport Daily News, and others.
