Kate Rooney was born into a multi-generational Newport family who is deeply rooted in hotel acquisitions and management, and restaurant and property procurement. Her love of local real estate and property development was established at an early age. After graduating from Portsmouth Abbey School she went on to the University of Vermont and graduated with a B.A. in Business and Marketing. Ready to explore new frontiers, Kate moved to the West Coast and settled in San Francisco, California. There, she worked for global real estate investment firm, Hines, and met and married her husband. Together they purchased a condominium in the city, adopted a rescue dog and welcomed their first child. Longing to return to her New England roots, Kate and her family chose to move back to Rhode Island and had their second child. By detailing her past as a positive and outgoing leader coupled with her experience, both professionally and personally, Kate was well positioned for a career in real estate. She joined Gustave White Sotheby’s International Realty in 2013 with an initial focus on rentals to establish her portfolio, and soon became a coastal and investment property specialist working with both buyers and sellers. In an ever changing market, a Realtor such as Kate with a background working with property owners and tenants is essential.
Kate is a co-chair of the St. Michael’s School Neighborhoods of Newport house tour, their largest fundraiser – A testament to her commitment to her children’s school. She is also an advocate for Aquidneck Land Trust and green spaces throughout the island. As an avid runner, you can find Kate along many of the island’s roadways. In her free time, Kate enjoys developing her talents as a “wannabe golfer,” and enjoys cooking and entertaining for family and friends who flock to her graciously appointed Middletown home for merriment and cheer.
