Our History

The name of Gustave J.S. White has been synonymous with real estate, auctions, and appraisals in Newport County for over ninety years. In the early 1920s, the firm of Andrews and White was formed. After Mr. Andrew’s retirement, Gustave J.S. White formed a partnership with his associate, James W. Dwyer under the name of Gustave J.S. White, Inc.
During the past nine decades, the firm has been the agent for many of the notable Aquidneck Island estates such as Hammersmith Farm, Vaucluse Farm, The Orchard, Fairholme, Gray Craig, and Harbour Court, now home to the New York Yacht Club. During the past two decades, the firm has been involved in the sales of, among others, Bridle Path, Bois Doré, Broadlawns, Avalon, Clarendon Court, Wildacre, and Hopedene. Gustave White took place in the reselling of the Gray Craig estate in Middletown (in 2000) for a record price, as well as the sale of Miramar on Bellevue Avenue (in 2006) representing the highest price paid for a residential property in Rhode Island. Gustave J.S. White has also provided commercial locations for the Raytheon Company, the Newport Daily News, and others.
