OUR HISTORY
The name of Gustave J.S. White has been synonymous with Newport real estate, auctions and appraisals for over eighty-five years.  In the early 1920s, the firm of Andrews and White was formed. After Mr. Andrew’s retirement, Gustave J.S. White formed a partnership with his associate James W. Dwyer under the name of Gustave J.S. White, Inc.  

During the past seventy years, this firm has been the agent for most of the notable Aquidneck Island estates such as “Hammersmith Farm”, “Vaucluse Farm”, “The Orchard”, “Fairholme”, “Gray Craig”, and “Harbour Court”.  During the past decade, we have sold, among others, “Bridle Path”, “Bois Doré”, “Broadlawns”, “Beaumaris”, “Avalon”, and most recently, “Seaweed”. Gustave White was involved in the reselling of the “Gray Craig” estate in Middletown for a record price, as well as the sale of “Miramar” on Bellevue Avenue, which brought in the highest price paid for a residential property in Rhode Island to date.  In addition, the firm has been involved in quality residential developments such as Black Point Farm and Easton’s Point. Professionalism and integrity are our hallmarks. We take pride in the fact that we have succeeded in maintaining these goals, especially since our growth has been substantial in recent years.

In 1976, as Gustave J.S. White Real Estate, we entered into an exclusive affiliation with Sotheby’s International Realty.  In 2000, Christina West and Paul A. Leys purchased the company and expanded the firm’s coverage. Today, we have a team of 31 professional agents serving all of Rhode Island, including Block Island. We service all areas of the market: the larger estates as well as moderately priced residences and condominiums. Our experience also includes the multi-family market, commercial sales/leases, and residential land sales. We have an active rental department with an inventory which includes houses, apartments, and condominiums - furnished and unfurnished - for short term, summer, and year-round.
